Some say that Stumpy is the oldest resider here in Ebel Alley and that he’s never been out of Ebel, not even once. All his siblings are gone now. They all hoped the train to the other side and he hasn’t heard from them since. As far as he knows, he’s the last of his breed. His abode is down by the tracks and he’s been a selling travel tickets to the other side for those bravest enough to go. Then he gathers up the travel tickets before you get on the train. I hear tell he’s been the conductor as long as the train has been coming through these here parts.
When Stumpy isn’t selling travel tickets and conducting, he’s doing the mail deliveries to all the residers in Ebel Alley. I hear tell that one time he was doing the deliveries and stopped by the Watering Hole Saloon and lost his specks in a game of chance with Huckster. Now he can’t see a thing and we all get deliveries for someone else. That Stumpy really needs some bottle caps to see.
One thing is for sure, you can always count on Stumpy to make the deliveries no matter how the blues (sky-weather) are a going. I hear tell that in the last flooding, Stumpy was almost to the other side of Puddles Lake when the Captain picked him up and brought him back. It’s a good thing that the Captain spotted his deliveries bag or who knows where Stumpy would be these days.
