Yoz

The Sheriff

You don’t want to cross Yoz, he’s our sheriff here in Ebel Alley. He grew up down in Snake Gully and he’s one tuff little guy. You have to be tuff if you grew up in Snake Gully. That’s one place I don’t go near. Strange things can happen there, so I hear tell. That’s where Yoz learned to fight so he has to be tuff because if you can’t hold your weight, you can’t hold the others.

Yoz walks the Widow Swabzatell home every night after she closes the Sweetem’ Emporium. It’s on his way home so it’s no big dealer. Yoz has quite a fancy place over on the cliffs estate on the way to Snake Gully. It’s cut back into the rocks and hangs out over the edge of the cliff and Yoz can see Ebel Alley and Snake Gully from there. I hear tell he has a fancy dancy transport hidden in the cliff but he never brings it to Ebel so I don’t know for sure if he really has one although when Tz was looking for another transport for his cab service, he thought he spotted Yoz in a shinny yellow zoomer transport. But Tz said it went past him so fast that he wasn’t sure if it was Yoz. And we ain’t ever seen a shinny yellow zommer in these here parts, ever.

Stumpy down at the tracks says that Yoz was in the big one and got lots of medallions. I guess that’s why Mister Mayor hired him to be sheriff after the Beast got taken out during a showdown out at the Founder’s Day picnic several years ago. It’s the duty of the sheriff to make sure all the lawyers and orderlies are taken care of and followed by the residers in Ebel Alley. I hear tell that most of the residers think Yoz is doing a pretty good job here. He doesn’t talk much and carries a big stick. He’s pretty mostly action when there’s a need for action. But here is Ebel, we’re a petty peaceful place. It’s only when the outsiders come in that there’s trouble. Besides that, Yoz can’t seem to hold anyone in jail, they keep sneaking out the back door. He told Mister Mayor that he had to get that fixed but Hamner, the fixer, has simply been up to his undies in work lately since the last flood shut down the Cannery. At least that’s what he’s been telling the Misses.
