How to Care for Floorcloths &
Wallcloths
These canvases are hand crafted with special attention
to detail. We ask that you follow our care instructions to insure a
lifetime of enjoyment with your floorcloth, wallcloth or tabletop piece.
Floorcloths are intended to be used on hard floors such as vinyl, wood,
concrete and most tiles. We don't recommend using them on carpet because
the finish of the floorcloth will crack under the weight of walking.
Before installing your floorcloth put it in a warm place and unroll it
slowly. Cold temperatures make the canvas stiff. Let it warm up and it
will become flexible. Sometimes we help them out by using a hair dryer.
Vacuum and mop the area where you will place your floorcloth removing
any grit or dirt. Place a very thin rug pad down before positioning your
floorcltoh if your floor has a pattern that you wouldn't want to
telegraph through. In time this will happen giving the appearance of
true linoleum. This is a personal preference. Floorcloths do not have to
have a pad. We don't use the rubber backing seen on some because we like
the flat look and we also are not sure that the backing will last as
long as the floorcloth.
In commercial installations we use double stick carpet tape to keep the
edges down. This is also a good idea when used under the dining table to
keep chairs from catching the edges and keeping crumbs from finding
their way under.
Any furniture placed on a floorcloth should have felt or glides attached
to the bottom of the feet. The finish is very durable but it will crack
under the weight of high heels or anything that would leave an imprint
in a vinyl floor.
Never fold floorcloths! Always roll them on a tube for storage or moving
(painted side out). Store placemats flat and coasters flat.
Wallcloths usually come ready to hang with tabs or a rod pocket. There
is also a rod pocket in the bottom for a dowel rod. This will keep the
bottom straight and help it to hang straight. Wallcloths intended to be
installed directly to the wall can be pasted with heavy vinly wallpaper
paste. Follow the directions for hanging heavy wallcovering and fabrics.
Do-it-yourselfers and professional wallpaper hangers can do this in a
jif.
All pieces can be cleaned in the same way and should be cleaned
regularly. Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming. Get underneath edges of
floorcloths. Use mild soapy water and mop or wipe. Avoid harsh cleansers
and chemicals. Rinse with clean water and towel dry. All pieces are
waxed before leaving the studio and may be periodically waxed to
maintain a nice sheen and flexibility. Use a clear bowling alley type
wax. We sell a good one if you don't find one in your area. See our ETC
page.
Every item is carefully packed and thoroughly inspected before leaving
the studio. The carrier upon acceptance of the shipment assumed
responsibility for it's safe delivery. Claims for damage sustained in
transit or loss must be made to the carrier.
