The Paper Mountains

The California Sunset women's piece was built for someone who loves the way the mountains here on the West Coast look like paper cutouts against the subtle faded colorsof the emerging night. It represents a day completed and an evening of adventure just beginning.

The Most Complex Dial yet

After sketching the design, then creating the final design and color separations in Illustrator, I printed them out on vellum and used those as guides to hand-cut the separations out of masking vinyl. I then set out to build a cohesive color palette to capture a pastel gradient of the evening sky that would complement the rose gold case. I hand-mixed each shade to match my digital choices, and began the week-long masking, painting, curing and finishing process to complete the piece.

Bringing it Together

The final build brought together this dial, a Seiko NH35 automatic movement with a sweeping second hand and date complication, and this beautiful rose gold case. The piece was paired with an earthy leather strap, giving the project an elgant and natural beauty fitting of the natural spectacle that inspired it.
